George Mitton of Upper Rexton, NB was elected to serve for 2009- 2010 as 1st VDG of the International Association of Lions Clubs District N-1 at District’s annual convention in Saint John, NB in April, 2009.

 

1st VDG George joined Lionism in 1996 when he was inducted into the Rexton Lions Club. He has received the 100% Attendance Award ever since and has sat on his club's Board of Directors since 1997. He has served two terms as President, three as Treasurer and another as Acting Secretary.

 

Having chaired numerous committees, the one in which he is most proud of is the Lions Foundation of Canada Walk for Dog Guides. Having Co-chaired the walk with his wife Leigh Ann for the past eight years, raising over $33,000 for the foundation. At the district level, 1st VDG George has served as Zone Chairman, Children’s Activities Chairman, Treasurer's School Presenter, and as a Group Coordinator for CSFII. He is very honored to have the opportunity to serve as 1st VDG.

 

1st VDG George has been honored to receive his club's Lion of the Year Award, the district's Best Zone Chairperson Award, an International Presidents Certificate of Appreciation, Two International Leadership Certificates, Guiding Lion Certificate, International President's Commendation and a District Governors Special Certificate of Appreciation. He is also a Life Member of the Lions Foundation of Canada.

 

1st VDG George has also served his community by sitting on the Board of Directors of his local Chamber of Commerce, the Richibucto River Association and the Community Access Centre. He has also coached minor hockey and baseball.

 

1st VDG George is married to his lovely wife Leigh Ann and they have two wonderful sons, Michael, 9 and Jeffrey,7.

Lion Gerry joined the Summerside Lions Club in March of 2000 and has served as club secretary and president and treasurer of Lions Housing and as Zone Chairperson.


He and his wife Aileen live in Miscouche, PE. They have been married for 39 years and have 2 children, Shannon of Charlottetown and Sean of Calgary.


Lion Gerry enjoys golfing, curling and reading. He retired from teaching in 1988 and currently is a self-employed accountant.
